An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent Network Systems Engineer in a Prestigious Global Electronics Company based in the Ruislip Area.
As the Network Systems Engineer you should be able to sufficiently support & grow the company's Pan European Network. The role is to be 60% network, and 40% Linux. The majority of work is network based supporting the WAN, branch offices, and core LAN + firewalls
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support and troubleshoot complex network problems incorporating system, network and security elements.
Produce detailed, accurate design documentation including network diagrams and procedure documents.
Design and implement solutions based on requirements gathered from several sources.
Work with our MPLS provider as a customer to aid in problem determination.
Identify network design issues including high availability and redundant configurations.
Be able to identify network problems and issues with the use of network sniffers such as Wireshark.
Configure Cisco network switches, routers, ASA firewalls, Checkpoint firewalls, Pulse Secure Remote Access VPN.
Collaborate to a high degree with local and remote colleagues
ESSENTIAL ROLE REQUIREMENTS:
Experience in a system and network engineering role working for a Pan European company.
Possess an understanding and knowledge of CCNP topics included but not limited to OSPF, BGP, IPSEC, VLAN, STP, HSRP, VRRP, WAN and SD-WAN technologies.
Provide a detailed understanding and knowledge of TCP/IP. Be able to identify network problems and issues with the use of network sniffers such as Wireshark.
Good understanding of wireless protocols and management of corporate wireless networks. Knowledge of other vendors would be an advantage.
Good working knowledge of Linux (in particular Debian and Suse) and applications such as Apache, Squid, Bind, Network Automation.
Capable of configuring Cisco network switches, routers, ASA firewalls, Checkpoint firewalls, Pulse Secure Remote Access VPN.
Cisco CCNA level certified (or equivalent proven real world experience).
Good working knowledge of IP addressing & subnetting.
Good working knowledge of OSPF routing.
Good working knowledge of LAN technologies, VLANs, VTP, Spanning Tree, DHCP, Layer2 switching.
Knowledge of security on IOS (access lists).
You will be required to physically attend the data centre based in Park Royal from time to time, some of which may be at short notice, so it would be preferable if you lived close to Park Royal.
DESIRABLE ROLE REQUIREMENTS:
Best practice configuration of Cisco network switches, routers, ASA firewalls and Checkpoint firewalls. Knowledge of other vendors would be an advantage.
Understanding of virtualization technologies would be an advantage ( Hyper-V & ESXi in particular )
The role requires initiative, a high degree of collaboration with local and remote colleagues and good inter-personal and communication skills.
Install Linux from scratch
Be aware of various Linux distributions, and the differences between them
Able to install software
Able to identify if required services are running
Able to identify what ports are open for connections
Can Search log & config files using grep
Be able to perform standard linux tasks, SSH, Tar/zip, check mail queues, check DNS records via cli.
Any experience of bash shell scripting would be a distinct advantage
