This is a newly created role within the Risk and Controls function and is designed to provide consistent and effective support for the first line of defence.

The role will cover all of the bank and will report to the Chief Operation Officer (COO). This is a first line of defence role which will cover all risk types albeit with a particular focus on operational risk. They will be expected to collaborate effectively with risk colleagues to support and promote excellence in risk management within their first line of defence.

This role will also be expected to work effectively within the Control Team function to promote consistency, quality and value added to the business in everything that they do. They will also need to have a practical, common-sense approach and be comfortable undertaking a full range of activities.

The Control Manager role will need to have a good understanding of risk management tools, techniques and concepts to support first line, Snr. Business Risk Managers, as well as specialist knowledge of Control Testing governance structures and frameworks.

Key Responsibilities:

The Control Testing Manager working in close coordination with the Senior Business Risk Managers and the second line of defence will be responsible for the following:

  • Utilising existing Control Testing tools within the bank to further develop the company's Control Testing Framework and embed within the business

  • Enhance the governance programme for Control Testing including Key Regulatory Control monitoring and breach processes

  • Support the Snr Risk Managers through reporting and MI, RCSA, IA and Compliance Monitoring actions

  • Further develop Control Testing MI for committees and Senior Managers.

  • Liaise with areas of the business to ensure that data is accurate and up-to-date for risk reporting purposes

  • Own and execute the controls testing programme that includes a review of controls to identify key themes and trends that require action or nomination for further assessment through the risk and control self-assessment process

  • Work with regulatory SMEs to produce full traceability from regulation through to control

  • Support senior managers with creating a culture of risk management deep within the business units
