A school located in South Bucks (Near M40) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior IT Technician to join their team. This will be the ideal position for an already established Senior IT Technician or an experienced IT Technician looking to step up for a more senior hands on role.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the school's IT infrastructure, including servers, network and software, ensuring high levels of performance, security, and reliability. The Senior IT Technician will work closely with the Operations Manager and Finance Manager, school leadership, teaching staff, and other stakeholders to ensure that the school's IT systems meet the needs of our teachers, students, and admin staff. 

Education and Qualifications

  • A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field is desirable.

  • Professional certifications such as Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) would be an added advantage, though not essential. 

Experience

  • At least 3 years’ experience in IT support.

  • Expertise in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting hardware, software, and networking equipment, as well as classroom AV and other technologies commonly in use in a secondary school environment.

  • Experience in maintaining and supporting hardware, software, and network systems.

  • Experience in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues.

  • Experience in implementing and managing IT security protocols and measures.

  • Experience with Windows client and server operating systems and applications.

  • Experience with Microsoft 365 and related technologies.

Essential Skills

  • Strong technical knowledge of hardware, software, and wired and wireless networks.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A high degree of literacy is desirable as well the ability to effectively communicate with a range of users of varying technical ability, both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to manage and maintain servers, network infrastructure, and other common school systems (printing setup, CCTV, etc).

  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.

  • Familiarity with virtualisation technologies such as Hyper-V.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a larger team.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 administration.

Desirable Skills/Experience

  • At least some experience preferably in a secondary school or similar educational institution would be beneficial.

  • Being able to clearly explain technical issues to non-technical staff and students would be beneficial.

  • Experience in repairing hardware would be beneficial.

  • Experience with MacOS/iOS, ChromeOS, Linux, and Android would be beneficial.

  • Experience with SIMS (school MIS system) would be advantageous.

  • Experience in training and supporting users would be beneficial.

  • Familiarity with Dell hardware and network equipment would be advantageous.

  • Familiarity with Ubiquiti network equipment would be advantageous.

  • Knowledge of educational software such as learning management systems, student information systems, and online assessment tools, as well as exam processes and procedures would be advantageous.

  • Familiarity with mobile device management (MDM) and BYOD policies would be beneficial.
